Men's soldier's hat worn by George Drowne during the Civil War. Possibly a formal dress hat. Navy blue with brass top and black brim. Gold rope draped at rear of hat and attached at both sides of hat. Shield on top front and "G.D." encircled with olive branches on front bottom. Interior is lined with black leather. Black leather chin strap. Blue and white cone-shaped finial attached to top front of hat.

Additional gold banding attached along black brim with decorative gold buttons. Leather interior band, size 6 3/4.

Women's bonnet of silk organza. Bonnet has arched stays to support upright structure. These are covered in pea green colored shear silk organza with an embroidered dot pattern and green net with gold embellishments. There are matching silk organza chin ties. Decorative green silk flowers and gold flowers adorn the hat.

Oval shape hatbox. Made of cardboard and covered in white printed paper. Lid is held in place on box with a small pink tie. Side of box has three black and white images of a coat of arms flanked by various animals. Side reads: "HENRY HEATH LTD/HAT MANUFACTURERS/ To His Majesty The King/To Her Majesty Queen Alexandra." The top of the lid has additional images and manufacture information. Also includes a space for a name and address. The original writing here has since faded and is no longer readable.
